Cooking in an RV

Cooking in an RV is not without its challenges. For me, the single most important challenge is the lack of counter space. I don’t let that stop me from making absolutely anything I want, even if I have to pile things on top of each other in order to get enough room to roll out some dough.

Behold tonight’s dinner:

Homemade dough crookedly rolled out and topped with jarred pasta sauce (Prego Onion and Garlic, if you're curious (very yummy!))

The flash makes the dough look quite pasty, but it was actually perfectly browned. The cheese is a mix of 'Mexican' cheeses giving the pizza a real kick! I also added a diced orange pepper.

OMG

This was the best pizza I have eaten in recent memory!!! It was even better than the pizza I had in Whitehorse! The crust was that perfect mix of crispy and chewy, the sauce was flavourful, the cheese blend unexpectedly delicious. I had a hunch that a pizza cooked in a propane oven would be superior to one cooked in an electric oven, and I was right. I’m going to get a pizza stone!

  • I never liked frozen pizzas before, but seriously — Dr. Oetker’s pizzas are sooo good. Better than even delivery. They have directions on the box for if you want to cook it in a bbq. Might add a nice flavour. Though homemade is always fun too.

When you say propane, do you mean your RV oven uses propane or that you used a bbq?

  • Oh right, the title of the post is, “Cooking in an RV”. . excuse me 🙂

  • I LOVE Dr. Oetker pizzas!!!! Back in Quebec, I would load my freezer up with them at 3.99$ on sale, but I haven’t seen them cheaper than 5.99$ on sale since I got out west. Up here, they’re 11.99$!!!

Without trying to sound like I’m bragging, my pizza last night was at least as good as a Dr. Oetker!

As for the other part of your comment, it has prompted a post. 🙂

  • You inspired me. I made english muffin pizza (staple from my youth) last night. Cassidy’s mom works in a bakery and gave me tons of english muffins, all different flavors. I made my mini pizzas with the cheddar flavored ones. Delish!

  • YUM! Love English muffins and they make such a good pizza base!
