Black Tank Flushout Tip

On Tuesdays, I write about technical tips and products.

Some higher end rigs have a black tank flushout. This is an inlet to which a grey hose can be attached to direct high pressure streams of water into the black tank to flush it out.

A hose should be hooked up to this inlet only  when the black valve is open at the time of dumping. This is because, as some RVers have learned, leaving the inlet hooked up can cause the black tank to overflow, seep up into the toilet, and flood the rig with sewage. This could be caused by a valve failure or someone inadvertently opening a valve.

The convenience is not worth the risk; only hookup the tank flushout when using it!

Rustoleum Frosted Glass Spray

On Tuesdays, I write about technical tips and products..

RVers who do not have privacy glass and who temporarily need to keep their neighbours from looking in may find Rustoleum Frosted Glass Spray a good alternative to fussy light reducing window tint film.

This acetone-based product sprays on and is removable. It allows light in but keeps gawkers from seeing inside the rig. Unlike privacy glass or tinted film, privacy is maintained at night when a room is lit. On the flip side, it also keeps the user from looking out. An option is to only use the product on the bottom of the windows.

When applying, open all windows and run a fan to disperse the fumes.
