2011 Canadian RV Show Schedule

On Sundays, I write about happenings in the Canadian RVing community.

2011 schedules for RV shows across Canada are trickling in. An RVer could easily criss-cross the country in an attempt to visit as many of them as possible.

Attending RV shows is a great way to keep on top of industry happenings. The shows provide an incomparable opportunity to tour many rigs under one roof and some also provide seminars in RVing basics.

Professor of RVing Pulls Off the Road

On Sundays, I write about happenings in the Canadian RVing community.

Jim Twamley, ‘Professor of RVing’, has had to pull off the road for health reasons.

Twamley is an RVing expert who has spread his knowledge through videos, seminars, a blog, and books. New RVers are fortunate to have access to the wealth of material he has shared over the years.

Mixed Feelings About Albertan Luxury RV Resort

On Sundays, I write about happenings in the Canadian RVing community.

Residents of the Mayatan Lake area in Alberta are polarized over the idea of a luxury RV resort being built on Crown land.

One side is for the resort, which would eliminate squatters, and the other is worried about the impact on the local way of life and the fact that a luxury resort only caters to the wealthy.

An update to this story was posted on November 27th, 2012.

Many RVers Not Traveling To Mexico

On Sundays, I write about happenings in the Canadian RVing community.

Many Canadian RVers are heeding travel warnings against Mexico and staying in the US this winter because of increasing tensions and violence near the border.

Part-timer Croft Randle recently reported that a good friend who took a chance and drove to Mexico was robbed at gunpoint his first night in the country. Thankfully, no one was injured.

RV Clubs for Canadians

On Sundays, I write about happenings in the Canadian RVing community.

gorving.ca provides an excellent list representing the variety of RV clubs available to Canadians. Some are province-specific, others are American with Canadian chapters, and there are several reserved for owners of specific brands.

Joining an RV club can provide the following benefits, and more:

-fraternity with like-minded RVers

-campground discounts and/or access to campgrounds not available to the general public

-fuel and insurance discounts

Joining one RV club can often garner you the benefits of another. For example, membership in the Quebec Federation of Campers and RVers (FQCC) is often recognized in western and northern Canada as being equivalent to the Good Sam membership and affords you the say 10% discount at RV parks. So, it never hurts to ask a park if they will honour another membership than that advertised.
